Snazzy Headshots

I get really excited when new clients contact me, especially if they do so because they have seen my work somewhere! Last week I got an email from Tanisha, who is a dancer. She wrote me some really nice words about my photos (making me all gushy and smiley) and asked if I could take some portraits of her to take to castings.

Tanisha was SO lovely to work with. Being my usual daggy self, I pulled all the lame dad jokes and had her laughing about on set in no time. She warmed up realy quickly, and relaxed in front of the camera easily. I love to mix these types of shoots up and work both indoors and outdoors, so after a few outfit changes in studio, we took some outdoor shots too. Thank you Tanisha for coming in to the studio, and good luck with future castings!

PS: yes, I do portraits and headshots. Actors, models, dancers- if you need a folio update get in touch! :)

Mini Road Trip With Jeremy

I’m really enjoying doing a lot more testing lately, especially on location. Here are a few snaps from a last minute shoot with Jeremy Anderson from GTR. I initially wanted to drive down to Werribee for this, but we only got as far as Altona before I wanted to stop and shoot. Sometimes I just like to drive around and jump out when a spot catches my eye.170127-jeremy-anderson-207-r

I took the Profoto kit out with me, but I actually just ended up using completely natural light. When shooting tests without an assistnat, I find it faster, and this keeps the pace of the session nice and snappy.

This shot of Jeremy under the bridge was my favourite of the shoot. I love capturing interesting pockets of light and this one was a great find! Thanks Jeremy for being a great model, and MYER for the clothing.

Jamie x Summer

I love testing with new faces, and so when Jamie approached me on instagram suggesting we do a shoot, I jumped at the chance. I have recently been enjoying the fluidity of shooting outdoors on location, and using the natural light around me. It’s a great change from being in the studio and having to tweat light until I am competely satisfied with it, and it keeps me on my toes in terms of observation.

I had one of my favourite and most trusted makeup artists, Jyoti,  on board. Luckily, she is also a stylist, so I didn’t have to worry about wardrobe. Sometimes I can get by and put looks together, but often I am just bluffing and a proper stylist can get the job done much quicker.

I’m not incredibly fashionable myself. Haha.

Jamie was fabulous to work with, I can’t beleive she’s only just finished high school. We shot really fast, as she didn’t need to warm up at all and just got straight into delivering brialliant frames. She was able to emote really well, as was so in tune with her body shapes and positions, so the shoot flew by.

We also snuck in some winter looks at the end- can you tell it was actually really warm weather?

Adventures in Shiba Park

After testing with some of the girls from Folio in Tokyo, I came back to the office to pack up and say goodbye. In the meantime, a young male model had dropped in and was chatting to the office staff. He explained that he was looking to do some testing, so I asked if he wanted to do a shoot the following day. He was thrilled, and so we organised to meet back at the office the next day.

Ty was such a friendly guy, and was in Tokyo to work. He usualy resides in Hawaii, so I had lots of questions to ask him about the differences in living in the two locations.

We decided to shoot in Shiba Park, which is near Tokyo Tower and not too far from the office. This time, it was just myself and Ty with no other staff. There were so many spots to shoot in- shrines, parks, streets- so we just walked around and every so often I asked Ty to stop in a patch of light, or lean against a random wall.

Ty’s folio had a lot of smiling, youthful shots, so I wanted to capture some more serious faces and different expressions. He took direction really well, and was so easy to get along with. He was also very comfortable in front of the camera and moved well.

We shot for only about an hour, but I got so many great shots, it was hard to choose which ones to retouch. Thanks Ty! Looking forward to shooting again next time I’m in Tokyo! :)

And a couple of my shots made it onto Ty’s comp card…

Kylie & Vlade

In mid-January I had the pleasure of photographing the small wedding of Kylie and Vlade. They decided to have a small intimate ceremony at the Registry on Spring Street, with time afterwards to take photographs in the surrounding gardens.

Here are a few snaps.
